Education

Children are welcome at all points during our worship, especially for Holy Communion and a blessing.  We encourage our children to grow in the love and service of Jesus Christ and to explore and deepen their relationship with our Lord and each other in a number of different ways:

Sunday Morning

Church school is available to children ages 2 through 16 during the academic year, from mid-September through mid-June.  Classes begin at 9:45 AM and continue until 10:30 AM when the children join the rest of the congregation in church for communion.

Classes for the 2006-2007 school year are:

Nursery and Preschool: Ages 2 – 4
Primary: Ages 5 – 9
Intermediate/Young Teen:  Ages 10-16

Our curriculum is scripture centered and interwoven with Episcopal tradition.  We use art, music, and other activities to enhance the learning experience.  This year, all classes will be using the Living the Good News Episcopal lectionary-based curriculum that follows the same Sunday readings that are being used in church.  As a result, everyone in church will experience the same scripture every Sunday.  This curriculum will enable the children and their families to share and discuss the same subject matter each week.

Eucharistic Instruction

Every two years, we offer Eucharistic Instruction sessions for children ages 6 years and above and their parents.

Confirmation

Youth, ages 12 and above, are welcome to attend confirmation classes.  These classes are generally offered prior to the visitation of the Bishop to our parish, once every two years.  Guidelines for confirmation preparation generally include: small group faith sharing and prayer; an introduction to the Bible and history of the Church, Baptismal Covenant and Stewardship; and reflection on witnessing and service.

Discipleship, Fellowship, and Service

We encourage our youth to volunteer their time and talents and participate in a number of different activities such as: element bearers, acolytes, ushers, nursery school helpers/teachers, and lay readers.
